On Friday, unknown people threw a petrol bomb at the Durga Puja Pandal in Tati Bazar area of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, causing chaos in the area. In the video going viral, an injured person is shown being taken to the hospital. After this incident, the attackers fled from the spot. The five-day festival of Durga Puja began on Wednesday with the invocation of Maa Durga.
On Thursday, half a dozen people sang songs calling for Islamic revolution on the Durga Puja stage at Jatra Mohan Sen Hall in Chattogram. This incident spread anger among the local Hindu community. After this, a case was registered against seven people including Sajal Dutta, joint general secretary of the puja committee. The tension has increased further as the video of the incident went viral on social media. Expressing displeasure over the incident, famous Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen wrote on social media, “Jihadis are singing Islamic Jihadi songs in the Durga Puja pandal. Imagine if Hindus start singing ‘Hare Ram Hare Krishna’ during prayers in the mosque? These incidents that took place during the puja have created an atmosphere of anxiety and tension in the entire country.
Let us tell you that till now 35 incidents have taken place during Durga Puja in Bangladesh since October 1. Police have registered 11 cases, 24 General Diary (GD) have been made and 17 people have been arrested in these matters. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Moinul Islam said that the puja is being celebrated in more than 32,000 pandals across the country. He visited Dhaka’s Banani Puja Mandap on Friday.
