There will be no meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh’s interim government’s chief adviser Mohammad Yunus at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Bangladesh’s foreign affairs adviser Tauhid Hussain said on Saturday that the country’s chief adviser Professor Yunus will not meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he will leave New York before arriving there for the UNGA with his 57-member delegation.
The foreign affairs adviser further said that he will hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to take the relationship forward. He said that Bangladesh wants to move forward its relationship with India on the basis of mutual respect and fairness by resolving all its issues. Hussain said that his delegation will leave from Dhaka on Tuesday.
Bangladesh said- we cannot change our neighbours
In the press conference, when the media asked Hussain whether the meeting with the Indian PM could not take place due to the statements made by the interim government, he replied that top Indian leaders have also made comments, but there is nothing that stops the leaders from meeting. Hussain said that liking or disliking the comments is not a big issue. We cannot change our neighbors, but we can live with mutual understanding and good relations.
