Singapore . After his visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Singapore on Wednesday for a two-day visit. Here, people from the Indian community gave a rousing welcome to PM Modi. Seeing the enthusiasm of the Indian community, PM Modi also played drums. People presented a saffron coloured towel to PM Modi. People from the Indian community were also present outside the hotel in Singapore where PM Modi is staying to welcome him.
On this occasion, people also took selfies with PM Modi. A woman also tied a Rakhi to him. During his visit to Singapore, he is going to meet many senior leaders including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. PM is also going to meet the leaders of Singapore’s business community.
Earlier on Wednesday, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Brunei Sultan Bolkiah. Important issues like defence, trade, education, technology and health were discussed between the two leaders. After the meeting, MoUs were also signed between India and Brunei. He welcomed the decision to start a direct flight between Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai.
Apart from this, the two leaders also discussed regional and global issues. During this, they agreed to work for the development of ASEAN countries. The Sultan of Brunei also hosted lunch in the world’s largest palace Istana Nurul Iman in honor of PM Modi.
During this, PM Modi said, I was warmly welcomed in Brunei, for which I thank the royal family. This is the first bilateral visit of an Indian PM to Brunei. The warmth I felt here made me realize the centuries-old relations between the two countries. Brunei has been an important partner in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision. India has always given priority to peace in ASEAN countries. Without naming China, PM Modi said, India is a supporter of development and not expansionism.
The Prime Minister said, this year India and Brunei have completed 40 years of political relations. After this, we have decided to give the status of enhanced partnership to the relations between the two countries. I am happy that Indians are contributing to the development of Brunei.
