New Delhi: The recent 5-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was extremely important and successful for three countries, Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana. During this, he interacted with 31 global leaders and heads of organizations. During this visit, Nigeria, Guyana and Dominica awarded him their country’s highest honour, bringing his total number of international awards to 20.
This visit also gives a clear indication of PM Modi’s diplomatic abilities. After Nigeria, he traveled directly to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the G-20 meeting. Subsequently, he attended the second India-CARICOM summit in Guyana. During this visit, he held several bilateral meetings with foreign leaders.
Tour started from Nigeria
PM Modi’s tour began in Nigeria, where he held his first bilateral meeting. Subsequently, he held bilateral talks with 10 countries during the G20 summit in Brazil. As part of this visit, PM Modi also visited Guyana, where he attended the India-CARICOM Summit as well as held bilateral meetings with heads of 9 countries and various international organisations.
During the G-20 summit, PM Modi held a total of 10 bilateral meetings with the leaders of Brazil, Indonesia, Portugal, Italy, Norway, France, UK, Chile, Argentina and Australia in Rio de Janeiro. This was PM Modi’s first bilateral talks with 5 of these leaders, which also included Indonesia. Thus, India’s relations were further strengthened through these meetings.
Discussion held with prominent leaders
In Brazil, Prime Minister Modi held informal talks with the leaders of Singapore, South Korea, Egypt, the US and Spain, as well as EU chief Ursula von der Leyen and officials from other international organisations. During this, discussions were also held with prominent persons like Antonio Guterres of the United Nations, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of the World Trade Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization, and Kristalina Georgieva and Geeta Gopinath of the IMF.
In Guyana, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with the leaders of Dominica, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and St. Lucia, apart from Guyana.
It is clear that PM Modi has effectively used his foreign tours in the interest of the country, making efforts to strengthen relations with these 31 countries.
