Poisonous gas spread by bonfire became the cause of death, three girls died

Three girls who were warming themselves by burning garbage in the open field of Surat industrial area died. Poisonous gas from the fire in the bonfire is believed to be the cause of death. The police have conducted post-mortem of the bodies of all three.

On Friday evening, Durga Mahonto (12), Amita Mahonto (14) and Anita Mahonto (8) were warming a bonfire with another girl on the burning garbage in the open field of the industrial area. Police Inspector JR Chaudhary said that while lighting the bonfire, the girls started vomiting and became unconscious. They were taken to hospital, where three died.

Police said that the fourth girl, who survived, said that all three died due to inhaling poisonous gas. The police officer says that the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is prepared and forensic investigation is done. It is believed that death occurred due to poisonous gas.

The Chief Medical Officer of Surat Civil Hospital said that the girls might have burnt something, due to which poisonous smoke came out and they fell ill. Things will become clear after post-mortem and forensic investigation.
