Pope Francis against surrogacy, demands worldwide ban; New debate on ‘surrogate’…

Pope Francis has called for a worldwide ban on surrogacy.

He appealed on Monday to ban the disgusting practice of motherhood through surrogacy. In his annual address he also included the commercialization of pregnancy in the list of threats to global peace and human dignity.

The Pope said these things in his foreign policy address to ambassadors accredited to the Holy Vatican. Francis lamented that 2024 begins at a time in history in which peace is rapidly diminishing. It is becoming weak and to some extent lost.

The Pope cited the Ukraine-Russia war, the Israel-Hamas war, migration, the climate crisis and the immoral production of nuclear and conventional weapons. Francis spoke about the imperfections that plague humanity.

At the same time, he presented a long list of allowing them to violate international humanitarian law. He also mentioned smaller scale issues and said that these issues, including surrogacy, are a threat to peace and human dignity.

He said that the life of the unborn child should be protected and should not be suppressed or made an object of trafficking.

Practice of motherhood through surrogacy abhorrent: Pope Francis
The Pope said, ‘I consider the practice of motherhood through so-called surrogacy to be abhorrent. This represents a serious violation of the dignity of the woman and the child based on exploitation of the material needs of the mother.’

A few days ago, Pope Francis appealed to end the war in Gaza. He also demanded the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

He also called for more aid to Gaza. The Pope expressed grief over the violence against Israelis and Palestinians.

He said he was deeply saddened by the widespread loss of life in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that broke out on October 7 and reiterated his urgent appeal for the release of those still held hostage.
