In view of China’s increasing aggression, the government has approved important changes regarding the Indian Army.
The government has decided to give more powers in financial matters to the army commanders deployed on the China border.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the Army’s new annual budget, which will enable commanders to procure necessary equipment for troops deployed in the field at the earliest.
PLA activity has increased in the Central Command, which monitors the border with China in Uttarakhand, in the last few years. The budget of this command has been increased four times.
The Central Command can now use up to ₹200 crores on essential items. At the same time, the special finance power of the Eastern Command, which looks after the borders of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, has been doubled to ₹400 crores.
At the same time, the special financial powers of the Northern Command, which is the most active and has been facing the aggression of Chinese soldiers on the Ladakh border since 1962, have also been increased from ₹ 400 crores to ₹ 500 crores. This is the highest among all the commands.
The purpose behind giving these powers to the commander is to expedite the procurement/repair of equipment/goods/materials/stores and other services during an emergency.
This decision will facilitate ease of doing business by accelerating capital purchases.
