President Draupadi Murmu was conferred the country’s highest civilian award ‘Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste’ by Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta for her achievements in public service and dedication to education, social work.
President Draupadi Murmu said that this honour is a reflection of the friendly relations between India and Timor-Leste. Let us tell you that President Draupadi is on a six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand and Timor Leste. Timor Leste is the last leg of this six-day visit to three countries. The purpose of the President’s six-day visit to three countries is to advance India’s ‘Act East’ policy.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Draupadi Murmu was honoured with Fiji’s highest civilian award ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’. During this, the President praised the relations between the two countries and said, ‘India is ready to partner with Fiji to build a stronger, resilient and more prosperous nation.’ This was the first visit to Fiji by an Indian President.
Indian Embassy to be established in Timor Leste
Before President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to Timor Leste, Indian Foreign Ministry Secretary Jaideep Majumdar had informed that an Indian consulate would soon be opened in Dili. Apart from this, he had also informed that the consulate of Timor Leste would also be opened in Delhi.
