Rio de Janeiro. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to participate in the 19th summit of G-20 leaders. Indian representatives led by Indian Ambassador to Brazil Suresh Reddy welcomed Prime Minister Modi.
The world is eyeing the G-20 summit starting today in Brazil and diplomatic tensions over global warming are likely to be a central issue. There is a deadlock between the negotiators at the ongoing COP-29 in Baku, Azerbaijan on the issue of climate finance and they are hoping that the leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies can end this deadlock.
PM Modi said- I am eager to participate in the conference
In a post on Twitter, PM Modi expressed his anticipation to engage in deliberations and productive interactions with world leaders at the summit. PM Modi said, “I have landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the G20 summit. I look forward to deliberations at the summit and fruitful interactions with various world leaders.”
Many important issues will be discussed in the G-20 summit
The G-20 summit will spend two days discussing issues ranging from poverty and hunger to reforming global institutions. Although the COP-29 has been entrusted with the task of agreeing on the target of raising hundreds of billions of dollars to combat climate change, the release of this money is in the hands of the G-20 leaders. G-20 countries account for 85 percent of the global economy and are the largest contributors to multilateral development banks supporting climate financing. They are also responsible for more than 75 percent of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
