Maldives Prosecutor General Hussain Shamim, appointed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government of former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, was brutally attacked by unidentified miscreants in the capital Male on Wednesday morning. News agency AFP has given this information quoting local media.

This incident happened when Shamim was going to work. An unknown assailant attacked him with a hammer. His left hand was injured in the attack. He is undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital in Male. His office has said that Shamim’s condition is currently stable.

Police said, “Prosecutor General Hussain Shamim has been attacked on the streets of the city. The attack was not done with any sharp object.”

Let us tell you that these days there is a large-scale political deadlock between the Maldives government and the opposition. The opposition there is demanding impeachment of President Mohammad Muizzu. However, the police have said that right now they are not in a position to say that the attack was carried out due to the deadlock.

Let us tell you that last Sunday, there was a clash in the Maldives Parliament between pro-government MPs and opposition MPs over differences over approving four members in the cabinet of pro-China President Mohammed Muizzu. According to local media reports, the main opposition party ‘Maldivian Democratic Party’ (MDP) decided to block parliamentary approval of four members of President Muizzu’s cabinet before voting on the cabinet. After this, pro-government MPs started protesting, due to which the proceedings of the parliamentary meeting were disrupted.

According to reports, during the clash, a scuffle broke out between Kandithimu MP Abdulla Saheem Abdul Hakeem Saheem and Kendikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Isa. Reports said that during the scuffle, both the MPs fell near the chamber, due to which Shaheem also suffered injuries on his head. Minority leader Musa Siraj tried to stop the dispute. According to reports, Shaheem was taken to the hospital. In a video viral on social media, MPs are seen gathering near the Speaker’s chair and scuffling.
