Nairobi. Hundreds of activists protested at Kenya’s main airport against an agreement between the Kenyan government and the Adani Group led by Indian industrialist Gautam Adani. Due to the protest, flight operations were halted and hundreds of passengers were stranded at the airport. The government has said that under the build and operate agreement with the Adani Group, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will be renovated and an additional runway and terminal will be built. Under the agreement, the group will operate the airport for 30 years.
The Kenya Airport Workers Union called a strike against the deal, alleging that the deal would lead to job losses and those who retained their jobs would be subjected to “extremely poor terms and conditions of service”.
