Pushkar Singh Dhami government presented the Uniform Civil Code-UCC Bill on the table today on 6th February, the second day of the assembly session.

Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to implement UCC after the country’s independence. CM Dhami has announced that he will make a law on UCC soon.

Ruling party MLAs also raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram and Vande Mataram. Issues like self-declaration for live-in residents, equal rights of women in property, mandatory marriage registration etc. have been included in Uttarakhand UCC.

CM Dhami said that the time has come to fulfill the promise made to the godlike people of Uttarakhand. Said that UCC will soon be implemented in Uttarakhand as a law.

UCC report, full report unanimously approved
According to sources, the Cabinet has accepted the report of the expert committee in its entirety. That is, all the recommendations of the committee have been accepted exactly without any modification.

The committee has given its opinion completely on all subjects related to civil laws. Although the complete report has not been released yet, the complete recommendations will be revealed only after it is presented in the Assembly.

UCC’s main recommendation
Age of marriage – Girls will not be able to get married before 18 years of age.
Registration – Everyone will have to do mandatory marriage registration.
Divorce on equal grounds – Husband and wife will be able to divorce on equal grounds.
Prohibition on polygamy – Second marriage cannot take place while one spouse is alive.
Inheritance – Girls will have equal rights as boys in inheritance.
Live in – Declaration of live in relationship will be necessary. This will be like a self-declaration.
Tribes – Scheduled Tribe people will remain outside the ambit of UCC.
