The war between Russia and Ukraine has entered its third year.
Meanwhile, Russia’s dangerous plans have come to light. Russia is making new plans to defeat Ukraine in the war. This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says.
Addressing reporters in Kiev, he said that Russia is preparing a very major attack against Ukraine in late May or summer.
However, he clarified that Ukraine has a plan ready to foil that attack.
Speaking a day after the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky said it was important for Kiev and its Western allies to remain united in fighting Russia and reiterated that Ukraine’s victory depends on continued Western support.
“We will prepare to deal with their attack,” Zelensky said. I believe that their attack, which began on October 8, has yielded no results. We, on our part, will formulate our plan and follow it.”
How many soldiers did Ukraine and Russia lose?
Zelensky said 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed since February 2022, the first official deaths in more than a year. The Russian Foreign Ministry has rejected Ukraine’s figures as false.
Zelensky said troop rotation would be extremely important to the war effort and stressed that Ukraine needed to better prepare its reserve forces.
However, a New York Times report last August, quoting US officials, put the death toll in Ukraine at around 70,000. The same report states that 120,000 Russian soldiers were killed during the war.
However, these figures could not be independently verified. Both Russia and Ukraine have often underestimated their military casualties in the war, while they have exaggerated the losses suffered by each other.
