The announcement of Nobel Prizes will start from next week amid wars and refugee crisis in many parts of the world. Award announcements will begin Monday with the medical awards. After this, Nobel Prizes will be given for Physics, Chemistry and Literature.
The peace prize will be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo on Friday. While other awards will be announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. The Nobel Prize for Economics will be announced on October 14.
Dan Smith, director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, said that when I look at the world I see a lot of conflict, hostility and confrontation. Perhaps it would be better to draw attention to this by withholding this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize has been suspended 19 times in the past, including during world wars. However, Henrik Urdal, director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, said it would be a mistake not to award the prize this year, as it is important to promote and recognize work vital to peace.
