A Pune court has issued summons to Congress leader and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi.
The summons has been issued in connection with a defamation case filed by the grandson of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
The complaint filed by Savarkar’s grandson Satyaki Savarkar said Rahul Gandhi had made objectionable comments against Savarkar during an event in the United Kingdom last year.
The court has ordered Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on October 23. The case was filed by Satyaki Savarkar in April 2023.
Satyaki had filed a defamation complaint against Rahul Gandhi in a Pune magistrate court, in which he alleged that Gandhi had made derogatory comments about Savarkar during an event in London on March 5, 2023.
“Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly insulted and defamed Savarkar for many years,” Satya’s complaint said.
He also claimed that Gandhi deliberately made false allegations against Savarkar, thereby damaging his reputation.
Moreover, the Nashik Court has also recently summoned Rahul Gandhi in a separate defamation case involving objectionable comments made by him against Savarkar. The complainant in this case is the director of an NGO.
He has alleged that Rahul Gandhi damaged the reputation of Savarkar during a press conference and speech in Hingoli in November 2022.
