The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday night in a money laundering case related to excise policy. The opposition has reacted sharply to Kejriwal’s arrest.
It is being told that after the arrest by ED, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi contacted the family of Arvind Kejriwal.
News agency ANI quoted party sources as saying that Rahul Gandhi has assured his full support to Kejriwal’s family.
According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi will try to meet Kejriwal or his family tomorrow to offer further legal assistance. Congress launched a scathing attack on the central government after the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal and claimed that “a scared dictator wants dead democracy.”
“Scared dictator, wants to create a dead democracy,” former Congress president Rahul Gandhi posted on “X.” He claimed, “Capture of all the institutions including media, breaking of parties, extortion of money from companies, freezing the account of the main opposition party was also less for the ‘demon power’, now the arrest of the elected Chief Ministers is also a common thing. Has occurred.” He said that the ‘India’ alliance will give a befitting reply to this.
The ED arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday night and took him to its office here. His arrest came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant relief to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national coordinator from any coercive action by the agency.
This is the first case of arrest of a Chief Minister while in office. The AAP has reacted sharply to the arrest of Kejriwal (55) amid the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
