The government told Rajya Sabha that waitlisted passengers cannot travel in reserved coaches of trains. “The details of waitlisted passengers traveling in unreserved coaches or traveling in unauthorized reserved coaches are not maintained,” Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a written reply to the question.
Monitoring of waiting list on regular basis
The Railway Minister said, the waiting list status of all trains is monitored on a regular basis. Railways also runs special trains during festivals and holidays. The Railway Minister said that the more advanced LHB coaches do not have manual coupling. Center buffer couplers have been installed in these coaches.
Recently a picture of an accident was circulated on the internet media. In this accident, a railway worker was crushed to death between the engine and the coach during decoupling. The Railway Minister said, this accident was not due to coupling or uncoupling, but due to misunderstanding among the railway employees in East Central Railway.
Kanchenjunga train accident happened due to mistake
The Railway Minister said that according to the investigation report of the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the Kanchenjunga train accident of June 17 was due to lapse in train operation. Kanchenjunga Express collided with a goods train in Rangpani-Chatarhat block of Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway. The accident was investigated by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety. The accident investigation report has been received. In the report, this accident has been categorized as ‘error in train operation’.
