Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given a big statement regarding the discount in fare while traveling by railway.
He says that every railway passenger already gets 55 percent discount in fare.
In fact, before the Corona period, senior citizens and media persons were questioned about maintaining the fare concessions they were getting.
In response to this he said that every railway passenger is already getting 55% discount in fare. However, Vaishnav did not give any direct answer to the questions of media persons on the restoration of concessions.
Ashwini Vaishnav was in Ahmedabad to review the progress of the Bullet Train project.
Before the lockdown imposed during the Corona epidemic in March 2020, the Railways used to give 50 percent discount in train fares to senior citizens and government-accredited journalists.
Railway operations were completely stopped during the lockdown. When the service resumed in June 2022, the Railway Ministry did not restore these concessions and the issue has since been raised at various forums, including in both Houses of Parliament.
Railways gives Rs 100 ticket for Rs 45: Ashwini Vaishnav
The Union Minister’s stance has been similar when this question was raised by many fellow MPs on various occasions.
When media persons raised the issue during a press conference in Ahmedabad, Vaishnav said, ‘If the ticket price for a destination is Rs 100, the Railways is charging only Rs 45. Thus it is giving a concession of Rs 55.
Earlier, Indian Railways had responded to the RTI application filed by Madhya Pradesh-based Chandrashekhar Gaur. It said the Railways earned around Rs 2,242 crore from around 15 crore senior citizens in the financial year 2022-23.
