Chennai, There was heavy rain in Chennai and other areas of Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department said that the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a clear, low pressure area and is likely to turn into a depression. Chennai, Tiruvallur and other parts of the state received moderate to heavy rain. Chennai Municipal Corporation has issued a helpline number. A holiday has been declared in schools and colleges and the government has requested people to use TN Alert app to get weather related information. There has been no impact on metro rail, aircraft and train operations yet.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inspected several areas including Narayanapuram Lake near Velachery. He inspected the Integrated Command and Control Center operated from Ripon Building, the headquarters of Chennai Municipal Corporation, to review the ongoing work to deal with the situation arising out of rain. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday took stock of the preparations made and steps taken by the authorities to deal with the situation arising in the wake of heavy rain forecast by the Meteorological Department. The Chief Minister directed that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force be deployed in advance in the affected areas.
