Respecting the integrity of India, Canada changed its tone but what did it say on Khalistan…

The Justice Trudeau government, which named Indian agents behind the murder of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has started changing its tone.

Canada’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison says that he respects and believes in the integrity of India.

Regarding the incidents of pro-Khalistanis speaking and creating nuisance in Canada, he said that these are things that we do not want to see, but they are protected under the right to freedom of expression.

Canada has said that its stand on India’s territorial integrity is absolute. Last year, President Justin Trudeau had directly alleged involvement of Indian government agents in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the Canadian Parliament.

After this, there was tension in the relations between India and Canada. This is Canada’s first statement after the rift between the two countries. Let us tell you that Canadian citizen Nijjar was one of the most wanted terrorists of India.

David Morrison in Ottawa said, “Canada’s policy is very clear that India’s territorial integrity must be respected. India is one and this is very clear”.

What did you say on Khalistan?

On the activities of pro-Khalistan elements in Canada, he said it is “horrible but true”.

These are things that “many of us don’t want to see” but they are protected under the right to freedom of expression. Despite its old statement on Khalistanis, Canada has shown signs of improving relations with India.

It is noteworthy that since the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Canada has been continuously signaling to India that it is in favor of improving relations.

Trudeau had said talks could now resume with India on “some very serious issues related to national security, the safety of Canadians and the rule of law.”

India’s tough stance after Canada’s allegations against Nijjar

Last year, India had rejected Trudeau’s allegations over the Nijjar massacre as “absurd” and “motivated”. Also expressed concern about Khalistan supporters in Canada.

Canada did not accept it. Instead, Trudeau said Canada has always “believed in freedom of expression. In June this year, a minute’s silence was observed in the Canadian Parliament in memory of Nijjar.
