KOLKATA: The R G Kar Medical College authorities have sent notices to 51 doctors, house staff and interns for allegedly indulging in behaviour that promoted a culture of intimidation, asking them to appear before an inquiry committee on Wednesday.
The authorities have barred 51 doctors from leaving the campus and from participating in college activities. Several of the doctors are reportedly close to Sandip Ghose, the former principal and prime suspect in the August 9 rape and murder case.
The decision was taken in a special council meeting held. Those who have been summoned include two senior resident doctors, a medical research scientist, 20 house staff, 11 interns and other medical (MBBS) students.
A protesting junior doctor said, there were complaints against this section of doctors and students for intimidating other junior doctors, students and house staff. Some of them were close to the former principal and had a lot of power inside the campus. Out of fear, many of us were forced to accept their torture. However, now the authorities have started taking some kind of action. Let’s see what happens.
The resolution of the special council meeting states, as a result, the concerned doctors and students are required to positively appear before the inquiry committee on September 11, 2024 to defend their innocence. The resolution states, as per the decision taken by the special council committee, they are prohibited from entering the campus of the institute until summoned by the inquiry committee. Additionally, participation in college activities is prohibited.
