Amid the fierce war between Russia and Ukraine, a news of relief has come.

Under an agreement mediated by the United Arab Emirates, the two countries have exchanged 206 prisoners of war.

In this deal, Russia released 103 captured Ukrainian soldiers, while an equal number of Russian soldiers were also released by Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that Ukraine has handed back 103 Russian soldiers captured by the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region. 103 Ukrainian soldiers captured by us have also been sent back to their border.

According to the United Nations, most Ukrainian prisoners of war have been mistreated and faced torture while in custody in Russia.

At the same time, various reports of mistreatment of captured Russian soldiers have also emerged.

Zelensky’s post – Our people have returned home

Ukrainian President Zelensky posted a picture of the returning soldiers and wrote that our people have returned home. We have successfully brought back our 103 warriors from Russian captivity to Ukraine.

I thank our exchange team for bringing such good news to Ukraine. In these pictures, soldiers wrapped in Ukrainian flags are seen hugging each other and posing for photographs.

According to a UAE news agency that brokered the swap, the exchange was brokered by the United Arab Emirates.

This was the country’s eighth such mediation since the beginning of 2024. Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that most of the released Ukrainian soldiers were in Russian captivity since the early days of the Russian invasion. Lubinets said that so far we have got back 3,672 Ukrainian soldiers in 57 exchanges, while the same number of Russian soldiers have also been released.

There was an exchange last month as well

Both countries had exchanged more than 100 prisoners of war last month. After the soldiers returned home, Ukraine said that the 115 Ukrainian soldiers released were strong soldiers of the country.

They were taken captive in the early months of the war. These include about 50 soldiers captured by the Russian army from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Ukrainian army had launched a surprise attack on Russia two weeks ago, in which 115 Russian soldiers were captured in the Kursk region. The ministry said that the released soldiers are currently in Belarus.

Countries around the world are worried about this fierce war going on between Russia and Ukraine. PM Modi has also tried to establish peace by visiting both the countries.

PM Modi is going on a visit to America this month, then next month he is going on a visit to Russia.

There can be talks about peace in these visits. Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky also expressed confidence in India and said that India can play an important role in establishing peace in this matter.
