Russian Defense Minister’s visit to North Korea, military cooperation to be discussed

The love between Russia and North Korea is not hidden from anyone. Where North Korea sent its troops in support of Moscow’s war against Ukraine. In return, Putin has given air defense missiles to the Korean country. Amidst all this, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov reached North Korea on Friday. Here he will interact with military and political leaders.

The ministry, however, did not say who Belousov would meet or the purpose of the talks. North Korean state media did not immediately confirm the visit.

Belousov, a former economist, replaced Sergei Shoigu as defense minister after Russian President Vladimir Putin began his fifth term in power in May. Belousov’s visit comes days after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met with a Ukrainian delegation led by Defense Minister Rustam Umarov, in which Yeol asked both countries to provide thousands of dollars to aid North Korea’s war against Ukraine. There was a call to prepare for retaliatory measures in response to sending troops to Russia.

The US and its allies say North Korea has sent more than 10,000 troops to Russia in recent weeks and some of those troops have already joined the war. North Korea is also accused of supplying weapons systems, missiles and other military equipment to Russia, which could help Putin further escalate the nearly three-year-long war.

Concerns were also raised in South Korea that North Korea could seek technology transfers from Russia in exchange for its troops and weapons supplies, potentially increasing the threat posed by leader Kim Jong Un’s nuclear weapons and missile program. .

Shin Wonsik, national security adviser to President Yoon Suk-yeol, told a TV program that South Korea had discovered that Russia had provided missiles and other equipment to strengthen Pyongyang’s air defense system. This will give North Korea a huge advantage in the military field. He did not say whether Russia had already transferred sensitive nuclear weapons and ballistic missile technologies to North Korea.

Russian media reports about Belousov’s visit come as South Korea temporarily stopped six Russian and five Chinese warplanes from entering the country’s air defense identification zone around its eastern and southern seas. Driven away. The joint chiefs said the Russian and Chinese aircraft did not violate South Korea’s territorial airspace.
