Moscow. BRICS summit has started in Kazan city of Russia. BRICS includes many big countries like China, India, UAE. This year most of the attention is on Russia. The reason for this is that Russia is hosting the conference, while the second and more important reason is Moscow’s tension with America and the West. By inviting leaders like Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi to Russia and then successfully organizing a summit with them, Putin has shown the US and its allies the ground. The reason is that America and the Western countries have tried to isolate Russia in the world since the start of the Ukraine war.
According to experts, the way Putin’s pictures appeared with world leaders at the BRICS summit, in a way, indicates his not coming under pressure from the West. He is also seen defying the West on Ukraine issue. Russia has signaled that it is ready for a long war and cannot be stopped by sanctions or the threat of isolation.
Putin had given permission for the Russian army to attack Ukraine in February 2022. After this decision many things changed completely. Canada, the European Union, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Britain and the United States imposed sanctions on Russian banks, oil refineries and military exports in protest against the attack on Ukraine. These sanctions were further increased as the war progressed and tried to isolate Russia in the world.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Putin citing war crimes in Ukraine. This was a shock for Putin at the global level. There was such pressure on Putin that he participated in the BRICS summit in South Africa in 2023 through video conferencing. Putin did not even attend the G20 summit in India last year. Amidst all this, Putin has made a strong comeback through BRICS and has given a message to the world.
In media reports, Putin has given a message to the US and the West, which are trying to corner him on the Ukraine issue, that despite the war and sanctions, Russia still has many international partners who are willing to trade and negotiate with Moscow. . The Kazan summit has symbolic and practical importance for Putin. This conference will show that Russia has the support of India, China and other emerging powers. The BRICS grouping now represents 45 percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of GDP. In such a situation, it has its own importance.
