Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was addressing a crowd at a Friday prayer service to commemorate the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
During this time he had a Russian-made Dragunov rifle in his hands. Khamenei preached to thousands of supporters. They all held photographs of Iranian leaders killed in the fight against Israel and the United States.
With a rifle, Khamenei emphasized resistance. Khamenei stressed that Iran will not back down in the face of Israeli aggression.
Khamenei warned that Israel would not last long. He said that Muslims should strengthen their security in all Islamic countries. He vowed to attack Israel again amid rising tensions in the region.
Earlier he had led Friday prayers to commemorate the death of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani nearly five years ago.
Khamenei also said during the sermon that every country has the right to defend itself from aggressors. He described Iran’s missile attack on Israel as legal and legitimate.
The sermon came as Iran ordered a missile attack on Israel in response to Nasrallah’s killing earlier this week. Iran fired about 200 ballistic missiles in response to the killing of Nasrallah and other prominent Iran-linked figures.
‘Nasrallah is no longer with us’
During his speech the Iranian leader said, “Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah is no longer with us physically, but his path and his resonating voice are and will remain with us.
He was a vocal voice and brave supporter of the oppressed.” Khamenei said that the enemy of Iran is the enemy of Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Yemen.
He said, “The enemy is working in a particular way everywhere, but the operation room is the same and they take orders from there.
If the enemy gets rid of one country, he will move to the next country.”
“The Palestinian nation has the right to stand up against an enemy that has occupied its land and ruined its life,” he said, referring to Israel.
Protecting the Palestinians is legitimate and helping them is also legitimate.”
Why did Khamenei choose Imam Khomeini Mosque?
Khamenei delivered a rare Friday sermon at the historic Imam Khomeini Mosque. This mosque played an important role in the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
The Imam Khomeini Mosque, built in the 18th century, is one of the most important architectural sites of Iran. It is located in Tehran.
