External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday that no one is going to get any solution in the battlefield.
If we talk about the long-running conflict between Russia and Ukraine, people will come to the negotiating table at some level or the other. He said that the sooner they do this, the better, because the rest of the world is being affected.
Jaishankar (69) is in Italy on a three-day official visit from November 24 to 26 to participate in the public relations session of the meeting of foreign ministers of the countries included in the G-7 group.
During an interview given to the Italian newspaper ‘Corriere Della Sera’, the Foreign Minister said that today we are facing two big conflicts simultaneously. This is putting the entire international system under immense stress.
In this interview, Jaishankar said that we cannot just become spectators and say that it is okay, this is the way. This may or may not work.
We won’t know until we try. But we believe that the countries on both of these conflicts (in Ukraine and West Asia) need to take the initiative, need to try, no matter how difficult it may seem, try to find some common ground, which today We have something better than that.
On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Jaishankar reiterated that India thinks there should be diplomacy to find a way to end the conflict and that is what we are trying to do.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, entered its 1,000th day on November 19. Asked what avenues he saw, S Jaishankar said: interacting with the participants.
Jaishankar said that you will have to talk to Moscow and you will have to talk to Kiev. That’s what we’re trying to do.
S Jaishankar said that look, it has been almost three years now. You’re not going to get a solution from the battlefield, right? We will have to compromise. At some stage or the other, people will come to the negotiating table.
The sooner they do, the better, because this has affected the rest of the world.
Jaishankar said that it is not that only Europe is bearing the brunt of this conflict. He said that what is happening has affected everyone’s life.
