A truck driver allegedly carrying illegal sand tried to run over a woman officer in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on Sunday morning.
An officer gave this information. He said that earlier the woman officer and her colleagues had seized eight vehicles carrying illegal sand.
The incident took place near Ghotitok village on the Mansar-Tumsar national highway, about 60 km from here, the official said.
He said revenue department officials were checking trucks to stop transportation of illegally mined sand.
He said that in Ramtek, Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) Vandana Savrangpate and her team first stopped some trucks traveling at high speed. The officer said that after investigation they seized eight trucks filled with sand.
Later, when the revenue staff tried to stop the second truck, its driver attempted to run away and run over SDO Savrangapate, who narrowly escaped, the officer said.
He told that when the SDO and his team chased the truck, a Nano car blocked their path. He said that the people in the car also tried to attack the revenue employees with iron rods. He said that Ramtek police has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
