Egypt. Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef, a vocal supporter of Palestine, has targeted Israel. Media reports have claimed that Israel’s spy agency Mossad had planted explosives in 5,000 pagers ordered by Hezbollah members. Thousands of wireless devices exploded in Lebanon on Tuesday, killing 11 people and injuring more than 3,000.
Israel critic Yusuf said that everyday devices like their phones, their children’s tablets and even their security devices can become time bombs because of the whims of a country. He said that Israel, you won by killing thousands of innocent people. Not a single politician or late night talk about this? Is there no news worth mentioning? Can nothing funny come out of this? Apart from Lebanon, around 100 explosions also took place in Syria on Tuesday. The country’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among the thousands injured in the pager explosions. Hezbollah has condemned Israel’s action and vowed to retaliate against Israel. This is not the first time that the Egyptian satirist has spoken against Israel. Earlier this year in New Delhi, Youssef had attacked Israel over the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza. During this, he had said that the alternative reality created by Israel is leading people to believe whatever is happening to Palestinian citizens in Gaza is okay.
