Odisha/West Bengal: Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ originating in the Bay of Bengal has created a wave of concern among the residents of Odisha and West Bengal. Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ is moving rapidly towards the coast. It is estimated that it may hit the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha on October 25, but tension has already increased in these states. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on the night of October 24, this storm may hit between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal.
According to the warning issued by IMD, this cyclone is likely to cause strong winds at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, which can cause serious damage in coastal areas. In view of this situation, the local administration has already started taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people.
Odisha government’s preparation to deal with cyclone ‘Dana’
The Odisha government has issued an official order stating that all educational institutions, such as schools, colleges, in the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khurda. Universities, technical and professional institutes, polytechnics and ITIs will remain closed from October 23 to 25. Necessary instructions have also been given to the heads of educational institutions of these 14 districts.
In view of the impact of Cyclone Dana, Kolkata Airport officials have also intensified their preparations. Dr. Pravat Ranjan Beuria, Director of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport informed that at present the airport officials are following the standard operating procedures. There is a possibility of heavy rain due to the storm, which may cause waterlogging in and around the airport complex. Keeping this situation in mind, the airport administration has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers. Officials have appealed to travelers to keep an eye on weather conditions and obtain all necessary information before travelling.
