‘Serious impact on security’, what did India say about Hafiz Saeed’s son contesting elections…

Talha Saeed, son of Hafiz Saeed, founder of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, is going to contest elections in Pakistan.

India has given a strong reaction regarding this. New Delhi said that the mainstreaming of radical terrorist organizations in that country is not a new thing and it has been a part of its government policy for a long time.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, ‘We have seen some news in this regard. This is an internal matter. It is known that Hafiz Saeed is wanted in India for many such cases including the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Arindam Bagchi said that he usually does not comment on the internal issues of any country.

However, he did say that the mainstreaming of extremist terrorist organizations in Pakistan is not a new thing and it has been a part of its government policy for a long time.

He said, ‘Such developments have serious implications for regional security. We will certainly keep an eye on all developments that impact our national security.

Attempt to bring Hafiz Saeed to India
Bagchi said that a request for the extradition of the terrorist was sent to Islamabad recently along with some documents. He said a request for extradition was sent recently.

He said, ‘The person being mentioned is wanted in many cases in India. The United Nations has also declared him a terrorist.

In this regard, we have requested the Government of Pakistan to extradite him to India along with relevant necessary documents, so that he can face trial in a specific case.

He said the Indian High Commission in Pakistan had submitted this request a few weeks ago. The spokesperson said India has been informing Pakistan about Saeed’s activities and he is wanted in India.

No bilateral extradition treaty between India and Pakistan
At the same time, Pakistan has confirmed that India has demanded the extradition of Hafiz Saeed. Pakistani Foreign Office spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Pakistan had received a request from Indian authorities seeking Saeed’s extradition in a ‘so-called money laundering case’.

“It should be noted that no bilateral extradition treaty exists between Pakistan and India,” he said.

India has no extradition agreement with Pakistan. However, people familiar with the matter said extradition is possible even in the absence of such a draft agreement.
