Serum Institute will make monkeypox vaccine – NNSP

New Delhi . Serum Institute, the company that makes the corona vaccine Covishield, has announced to make monkeypox vaccine. The company’s CEO Adar Poonawalla said that after monkeypox was declared a global health emergency, we are developing a vaccine to help millions of people. Hopefully, we will make it within a year.
On August 19, the central government had issued an alert at all ports and airports in the country as well as on Pakistan and Bangladesh borders amid rising cases of monkeypox. The Union Health Ministry has asked officials to be alert about the symptoms of monkeypox in passengers coming from outside. At present, no one is infected with monkeypox in India. The last case was reported in March 2024.
On August 19, the Health Ministry has set up nodal centers in three major hospitals of the Center in Delhi – Ram Manohar Lohia, Safdarjung and Lady Harding. Isolation wards have been set up in these hospitals for the treatment and care of monkeypox patients. The Center also directed all state governments to make necessary arrangements for monkeypox patients in their state hospitals. Officials said that according to the assessment so far, the risk of large-scale spread of monkeypox is low.
