The Election Commission gave its decision on Tuesday regarding whether NCP will be of Sharad Pawar or Ajit Pawar.
In the fight between uncle and nephew, the nephew has won. The Election Commission has said that the NCP of Ajit Pawar group is the real NCP.
After more than 10 hearings spanning over 6 months, the Election Commission settled the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s dispute and ruled in favor of the Ajit Pawar-led faction. After this Ajit Pawar got the name and symbol of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
At the same time, the Election Commission has provided Sharad Pawar a one-time option to claim a name for his new political formation and give three priorities to the Commission.
The concession can be used until 3pm on February 7, 2024. It is noteworthy that there was a rebellion in NCP in July last year when Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar joined NDA along with many MLAs.
He had assumed the post of Deputy CM in the Shiv Sena government of BJP and Shinde faction. NCP’s senior leaders Chhagan Bhujbal and Praful Patel had also gone with him.
After this Sharad Pawar was isolated. However, Sharad Pawar claimed that he was the real NSPP. At the same time, Ajit Pawar was calling himself the real NCP by taking along 30 out of 53 MLAs of the party.
Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel’s reaction
After the Election Commission’s decision, NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the Election Commission has given the decision in our favor after listening to the arguments of our lawyers.
We welcome it humbly. At the same time, party’s working president Praful Patel said that we welcome the decision of the Election Commission.
He said that election symbol is important for any political party. It is possible that tomorrow this decision may be challenged in the Supreme Court or High Court. We have nothing to say in this. We welcome the decision of the Election Commission.
Strong reaction from the opposition
At the same time, the opposition has given a strong reaction regarding this. On the Election Commission’s verdict in favor of Ajit Pawar in the matter of NCP’s name and election symbol, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that I am not surprised at all.
A man who was accused of corruption worth Rs 70,000 crore is today standing shoulder to shoulder with the BJP. Ajit Pawar is the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra…This is against the spirit of Schedule 10 of the Constitution.
