Ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has expressed her concern over the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Condemning the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Prabhu, Sheikh Hasina said that it is a very unjust act. The interim government should release him immediately.
Along with this, Sheikh Hasina also expressed her views regarding the ongoing human rights violations in Bangladesh. He said that all those involved in the murder of a lawyer in Chattogram should be caught and given the harshest punishment.
According to this statement posted on Facebook by Hasina’s party Awami League, Hasina said that a big leader of Sanatan Dharma Sanstha has been arrested in a very unjust manner and he should be released immediately.
Apart from this, a lawyer who had gone to do his work in Chattogram was chased and killed. The people who carried out this incident are not human at all, they are terrorists. They should be caught immediately and given the harshest punishment.
Questioning the efficiency of the current interim government of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said that the interim government, which seized power in an unconstitutional manner, seems to be failing on all fronts.
They are neither able to control the prices of daily use items nor are they able to ensure the safety of lives of Bangladeshi citizens.
Even if it is not successful in punishing these culprits, it will have to face punishment for gross human rights violation.
Appealing to Bangladeshi citizens, Sheikh Hasina said that I appeal to the people of the country to stand against such extremism and terrorism. The safety of our citizens is very important in our country. No matter what religion or sect he belongs to.
Condemning religious-based violence elsewhere in Bangladesh, Hasina said a temple was burnt in Chittagong.
Earlier, mosques of the Ahmadiyya community were also burnt, churches, monasteries and houses of people of the religious minority community were also targeted. This is all very wrong.
The interim government should intervene in this matter. Religious freedom and security of all communities in the country is very important. It is not right in any way to harm anyone on the basis of religion.
It is noteworthy that the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Prabhu Das in Bangladesh had attracted the attention of the world. The Foreign Ministry had also expressed its concern by condemning this incident.
The Ministry of External Affairs had said in an official statement on Tuesday that we urge the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, including the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
However, ISKCON has distanced itself from Das’s statements. But Das’s arrest comes at a time when religious tension is at its peak in Bangladesh. Atrocities against Hindus have increased in Bangladesh since the fall of Sheikh Hasina government.
Hindu organizations are joining protests across Bangladesh regarding this. On the arrest of Chinmoy Das, the interim government has said that he has been arrested not because of being a Hindu but because of the charge of treason.
