Indian and Chinese troops have resumed patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh after a gap of more than four years.
This step indicates a positive change on the border after violent clashes between the two sides in 2020.
Troops patrolled areas in Depsang and Damchok on Thursday, a day after completing the disengagement process from conflict areas.
It is noteworthy that after the clash between the two sides in Pangong Lake and Galwan areas in May-June 2020, patrolling in these two areas in eastern Ladakh was closed for almost four and a half years. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred during these clashes.
Earlier, both the countries agreed to an agreement last week which aims to end the four-year-long border tension.
The agreement to disengage its troops on the border called for the removal of military personnel as well as infrastructure from Depsang and Demchok and withdrawal of troops to pre-April 2020 positions.
Yesterday, on the occasion of Diwali, soldiers had also distributed sweets among each other at five places along the LAC including Chushul Maldo and Daulat Beg Oldie in Ladakh.
According to reports, the Indian Army is now investigating whether China has withdrawn its troops as per the agreement or not.
The Indian Army has said that ground-level commanders from both sides will inform each other before carrying out patrolling to avoid misunderstandings. Army sources have said that talks between the two countries will continue at the commander level.
