13 out of 100 smart cities in the country have completed all their projects. Whereas 48 smart cities have completed 90 percent of the work. Whereas, 75 percent work of 23 other cities has been completed. This information was given by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
He informed that the work of 714 projects worth Rs 17,303 crore is under implementation. The central government has set a target of spending an amount of Rs 48,000 crore to develop 100 cities under the Smart City Mission. Till November 15, the government has released Rs 47,225 crore and out of this Rs 44,626 crore has been spent.
152 health ATMs were also installed
The Union Minister said that 1,704 km long smart roads have been built or improved in these 100 smart cities. In these, 84,000 CCTV cameras have been installed and 713 km long cycle track has been developed. 9,433 smart classrooms have been developed in their 2,398 government schools. While 41 libraries with a seating capacity of 4,809 people, 172 e-health centers and clinics, 152 health ATMs have also been established.
More than 66 cities are managing solid waste management with the use of better technology. For this, 9,194 vehicles have been equipped with RFID, so that the location of the vehicle can be found automatically.
23 states gave proposals to develop new cities
He said that 23 states have sent proposals to the ministry to develop 28 new cities and these are currently being inspected. In February 2021, the ministry had announced that the central government would develop eight new cities to meet the demand of increasing urban areas. A provision of Rs 8,000 crore was made to develop eight cities in eight states. With this amount, only cities can be developed in a state.
