Wayne Ajaan Siripanyo, son of Malaysian telecom tycoon Anand Krishnan, has shocked people by announcing his retirement at the age of just 18, leaving behind his rich and luxurious life.
Anand Krishnan is the third richest person in Malaysia. He has assets worth more than 5 billion US dollars i.e. 40,000 crores.
His businesses span across telecommunications, media, satellite, oil, gas and real estate. Anand Krishnan is also the former owner of Aircel, which once sponsored IPL team Chennai Super Kings.
Ven Ajan Siripanyo’s childhood was spent in royal style. Now he left his comfortable and luxurious lifestyle and adopted Buddhism and decided to become a monk.
His father Anand Krishnan also describes himself as a devoted Buddhist follower. He has respected this decision of his son.

Wen Ajahn Siripanyo’s journey to asceticism began with a trip to Thailand at the age of 18. While visiting his mother’s family in Thailand he decided to temporarily retire to an ashram.
Today he lives as the head (abbot) of Dtao Dam Monastery located near the Thailand-Myanmar border. He spent his childhood in London with his two sisters.
He completed his studies there. Growing up among different cultures has given Ajahn Siripanyo a deep understanding of the principles of Buddhism. Ven Ajan Siripanyo knows eight languages. He also has knowledge of English, Tamil and Thai languages.

Wayne Ajan Siripanyo leads a very simple life. He earns his living by begging. He is also attached to his family and from time to time returns to his former lifestyle to maintain his relationships with the family.
They also sometimes travel to meet family members. He was once seen flying to Italy in a private jet to meet his father.

His father has also purchased a spiritual retreat in Penang Hill for his convenience.
