Seoul. South Korea displayed its most powerful ballistic missiles and other weapons capable of targeting North Korea during its grand Armed Forces Day celebrations. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warned that if North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, its regime will collapse. South Korea’s weapons display and warning came after its arch-rival the country revealed its uranium enrichment center and missile tests ahead of the US presidential election in November.
“If North Korea attempts to use nuclear weapons, our military and the (South Korea)-US alliance will face a firm and forceful response,” President Yeol told thousands of troops gathered at a military airport. “The North Korean government should give up the illusion that nuclear weapons will protect them,” he said.
The South Korean military displayed about 340 military equipment and weapon systems during the ceremony. The most powerful among them was the Hunmo-5 ballistic missile. Observers say that this missile, capable of carrying about eight tons of conventional weapons, can penetrate deep into the earth and destroy North Korea’s underground bunkers. This is the first time that South Korea has disclosed this missile.
