Washington. NASA’s Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has sent Diwali wishes across the world from the International Space Station (ISS). He said in the video message that this year he has got a unique opportunity to celebrate Diwali at an altitude of 260 miles (418 km) from the earth. Sunita said, I want to extend my warm wishes to the White House and all the people celebrating Diwali today across the world. He recalled his father and how he kept him and his family connected to Diwali and other Indian festivals. He said, Diwali is an occasion of happiness because on this day goodness triumphs in the world.

This message from Sunita has come at a time when US President Joe Biden organized Diwali celebrations at the White House. More than 600 respected Indian Americans participated in the event. Biden said, I have the honor of hosting the largest Diwali reception ever at the White House.
