The first two days of the winter session of Parliament have been completely marred by chaos.
Opposition MPs are creating ruckus on the issue of Gautam Adani. Congress is cornering the government on this issue. However, during the Parliament session, divisions started appearing in the India alliance.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken a different stand on the issue and party leaders have stressed the need to raise other issues in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters after the party meeting on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien said, “TMC wants Parliament to function so that people’s issues can be raised.”
He said that due to the disruptions in Parliament regarding the Adani issue, other important issues are not being discussed.
Lok Sabha member Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar also gave his reaction on this issue. He said, “TMC wants the Parliament to be functioning. We do not want any one issue to influence the Parliament. “We must hold this government accountable for its failures.”
The strategy of Trinamool Congress is different from the opposition attacks being made by the Congress. TMC wants to corner the central government on the issues of malnutrition in West Bengal, unemployment, situation in Manipur, North-East, shortage of food items and Aparajita (Women’s Safety) Bill.
Let us tell you that the Aparajita Bill has been passed by the Bengal Assembly but has been stopped by the Governor. The party says that it will take this bill to President Draupadi Murmu and will launch a statewide campaign on this issue on November 30.
Trinamool Congress leaders have also made it clear that their aim is to challenge the BJP by being a part of the opposition alliance INDIA, but their strategy in this path may be different from that of the Congress.
MPs from different parties in the Lok Sabha had given 18 adjournment motion notices on Wednesday, out of which nine notices were given by Congress MPs to discuss the Adani issue.
Other opposition parties gave notices to discuss the violence in Manipur, rising crimes in Delhi and the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. These notices were rejected by the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. After this the session of Parliament was adjourned.
