Sri Lankan Navy caught 23 Indian fishermen – NNSP

New Delhi. Once again Indian fishermen have been caught by the Sri Lankan Navy. These fishermen are accused of illegally entering the Sri Lankan border.
According to information, the group of fishermen had left on Saturday and were fishing near Nedunthivu when they were surrounded by a patrol boat of the Sri Lankan Navy, due to which 23 fishermen were arrested. Three boats have also been seized. According to information, the arrested fishermen were taken to Kangesanthurai Naval Camp and will be handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Department officials.
Earlier, the Sri Lankan Navy had also caught 17 fishermen in the month of September. Regarding this, State Chief Minister MK Stalin had written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Stalin had written a letter to Jaishankar saying that the fishermen who had gone fishing from Rameshwaram Fish Landing Center on September 28 were caught by Sri Lankan authorities near Neduntheevu on Sunday. The detention of fishermen and seizure of their boats is causing serious distress and uncertainty in coastal communities. The letter further said, I have repeatedly reiterated that concrete steps are being taken to resolve this serious issue diplomatically. More proactive steps should be taken. Considering the seriousness of the situation, I have also presented this as a request in the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister on September 27.
