Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, which was once the site of anti-Kashmir movements and stone pelters, has now celebrated the New Year.
This will probably be the first time in history that New Year has been celebrated at Lal Chowk.
During the New Year celebrations, people were seen singing and dancing to the tunes of Bollywood songs at the historic clock tower i.e. Ghantaghar of Lal Chowk. Hundreds of people flocked to the clock tower to take part in the New Year celebrations.
Along with the local people, tourists visiting Kashmir Valley also participated in the celebrations.
He was very excited about the ceremony at the famous clock tower of Srinagar. Local people from different parts of Srinagar city joined the New Year celebrations and looked extremely excited to be a part of it.
Pictures of New Year celebrations have surfaced on social media. Its video was shared by Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Srinagar Smart City Limited CEO Athar Aamir Khan. Khan described the moment as something never seen before in the city.

A local girl said, “I am very excited to be here today. I heard about these ceremonies being held at the Clock Tower in Srinagar and I asked my father to take me here so that I could witness it. These scenes of Lal Chowk have never been seen before and I feel lucky to be a part of the ceremony. I also like the lighting and decorations done across the city of Srinagar, especially at Lal Chowk, which is completely transformed after being converted into a smart city.”

Tourists who had come to visit Kashmir Valley were also surprised to see celebrations in the Clock Tower area of Srinagar. Tourist resorts like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are mostly booked.
Tourists have also found their place in other hotels and guest houses. The number of tourists in the valley is increasing and the administration hopes that 2024 will create new records.
