New Delhi. Taking suo motu cognizance of the dangers present in coaching centres and the frequent accidents, the Supreme Court has given a major order to make guidelines for safety. The court has called Delhi’s coaching centres death chambers. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner Coaching Centre Federation.
After the death of UPSC students in a coaching centre in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the safety of coaching centres in Delhi and issued notice to the Government of India and the Delhi Government. During the hearing, the Supreme Court said that coaching centres are playing with the lives of children. Coaching centres have become death chambers.
The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and the Chief Secretary of Delhi and asked whether safety rules have been implemented in coaching centers? The Supreme Court has asked the Attorney General to assist the court in this matter. The court said that we think that if coaching centers do not fulfill the safety norms, then they should be made online mode. But at present we are not doing this. On challenging the order of the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Coaching Center Federation. After the Mukherjee Nagar coaching accident, the Delhi High Court had ordered the closure of those coaching centers which do not have fire NOC. The Coaching Federation of India had challenged the order of the High Court in the Supreme Court.
