New Delhi . The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the slow progress by the West Bengal government in installing CCTV in hospitals and constructing toilets and separate rest rooms. Also, directed the state government to complete the work by October 15. The Supreme Court was hearing the case related to the trainee doctor, which was initiated by taking suo motu cognizance.
The Court reiterated its earlier order that no arbitral forum is allowed to publish the name and photograph of the victim. As soon as the hearing began, lawyer Vrinda Grover presented the arguments to the bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. He said the parents of the deceased trainee doctor are distressed by the repeated clips of his name and photographs being shared on social media. The apex court said it has already passed orders on the issue and it is the job of the law enforcement agencies to implement the order. The court clarified the earlier order and said that it applies to all arbitral fora.
The bench said that CBI’s investigation has yielded solid leads and it has given statements on both aspects of the alleged rape-murder and financial irregularities. During the hearing, the Supreme Court asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, how many employees were working at RG Kar Hospital, which is facing allegations of financial irregularities and is being investigated. The court asked to share the information with the state government for appropriate action.
