‘Thank you India’.. Maldives got relief with the help of India – NNSP

India has come forward to help Maldives, which has been spewing venom against India and running an ‘India Out’ campaign. On the request of the Muizzu government, India has decided to extend the treasury bill of US $ 50 million to Maldives for another year. The Muizzu government has expressed gratitude to India for the budgetary support received by Maldives.

India provided financial aid to Maldives

The Indian High Commission said in a statement that the State Bank of India (SBI) has subscribed to the Maldives government’s treasury bills worth $50 million for another year on completion of the previous subscription. In the month of May this year, SBI had subscribed to treasury bills worth $50 million under the old arrangement on the request of the Maldives government. These subscriptions have been made on the specific request of the Maldives government as “emergency financial assistance”.

Maldives expressed gratitude

Maldives Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb responded to the help provided by India. He wrote in a post on X, “Expressed gratitude to the Government of India for extending significant budgetary support with the rollover of treasury bills worth $50 million. Adeeb said that this strengthens the deep ties between our countries and strengthens our path towards economic stability and growth.”

Why did the bitterness increase between India and Maldives

Let us tell you that earlier this year, relations between India and Maldives had soured tremendously. In January, PM Modi had posted some beautiful pictures of the island while visiting Lakshadweep.

Seeing these pictures, people on social media started saying that tourists should visit Lakshadweep instead of Maldives. Maldives did not like this statement of the people. After this, some ministers of the Maldives government made comments against India. After this, the dispute between the two countries deepened.
