The disturbance in Myanmar reached the border with India, rebels captured a city…

The violence and armed conflict that has been going on for years in Myanmar is increasing. Its effect is also visible on the border with India. Recently, hundreds of Myanmar soldiers had entered India, who have been sent back by the Indian Army. Now the news is that Myanmar’s rebel group has taken control of a big city on the border with India.

Rebels captured the city

An ethnic armed group in Rakhine state in western Myanmar said it has taken control of a town along the border between India and Bangladesh, news agency Reuters reported. This is a big blow for the military government which is struggling with insurgency in many parts of Myanmar. Myanmar is burning in the fire of rebellion on many fronts. Here anti-army groups have taken control of many military posts and towns.

These rebel groups of Myanmar are getting full support from the pro-democracy parallel government. Let us tell you that in 2021, the Myanmar army had removed the government of Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup. After this, a wave of violence started throughout Myanmar which is still continuing. The latest news is posing a big challenge for the coup-led military government.

Rebel groups will cooperate with neighboring countries

A spokesman for the rebel group Arakan Army (AA) said late Sunday that it had captured Paletwa, a port city on the Kaladan River. The city is important for trade with neighboring countries like India and Bangladesh. “With regard to border peace issues, we will do our best to cooperate with neighboring countries,” AA spokesman Khin Thu Kha said in a statement. He said that his group will handle responsibilities like administration and law enforcement in this area. The spokesperson of the junta (military government) has not commented on this development.

Rebel groups’ capture of the port city of Paletwa in the west comes at a time when other groups have also taken control of several areas. Earlier, the Three Brotherhood Alliance, another MNDAA rebel group, had captured Laukkai city of northern Shan state on the border with China. Last week, the junta agreed to a ceasefire with the coalition for areas bordering China. The talks were held in the Chinese city of Kunming and were organized by Chinese authorities. But on Sunday, the rebel coalition said junta forces were violating the ceasefire agreement. They are attacking several townships in Shan State.

416 Myanmar army personnel had entered India

Earlier on January 11, Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey had said that about 416 soldiers from Myanmar had come to India in view of the situation arising out of fighting between armed ethnic groups and government forces. He said the Indian Army was “closely monitoring” the developments. Several major towns and areas near the Indian border have seen an uptick in hostilities between the two sides since November last year, raising concerns in New Delhi over the potential impact on the security of Manipur and Mizoram. “We are closely monitoring the situation on the India-Myanmar border,” he said.

Officials said all 416 Myanmar military personnel have been sent back. Anti-junta (military government) groups have reportedly taken control of several major cities and military bases near Myanmar’s border with India and the volatile situation has forced many Myanmar citizens to seek refuge in Mizoram.
