An Air India flight flying from Trichy, Tamil Nadu, to Sharjah, UAE, suffered a technical glitch on Thursday while it was flying in the sky.
According to the information, the hydraulic system of the plane failed, due to which it had to make an emergency landing back at Trichy airport.
The good news is that the flight has made a safe landing. There were 140 passengers in it. After being in the sky for a few hours, the plane has now landed safely.
Flight IX613, bound for Sharjah, declared an emergency shortly after takeoff when the pilot detected a technical fault.
The plane flew for more than an hour in Trichy airfield. To land the plane safely, it first had to go through the process of defueling in the air.
What did Tamil Nadu CM say?
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held an emergency meeting with officials and directed them to follow all safety measures.
He later congratulated the pilot and other crew members of the aircraft for succeeding in landing it safely.
According to the police, shortly after takeoff from Tiruchirappalli airport at around 5.30 pm, there was a malfunction in the hydraulic system of the plane (the system that controls the brakes, landing gear and other equipment used in landing).
Police said that later the pilot handled the situation wisely and landed the plane safely at Tiruchirappalli airport.
Stalin said in a post on ‘X’, “I am happy to hear that the Air India Express plane has been landed safely.
“After receiving news of the landing gear malfunction, I immediately held an emergency meeting with officials over phone and directed them to implement all necessary safety measures, including ensuring fire engines, ambulances and medical assistance.”
The Chief Minister said, “I have also directed the District Officer to ensure the safety of all passengers and provide them necessary assistance. “I commend the pilot and crew for landing the aircraft safely.”
Earlier, Airport Director Gopalakrishnan said that the plane was circling in Trichy airfield so that the fuel present in it could be reduced and a safe landing could be done. More than 20 ambulances and fire tenders were deployed at the airport for security reasons. Emergency services were fully prepared to deal with any possible accident.
Why was the plane circling in the air?
Let us tell you that to land the plane safely, there is a need to reduce fuel because at the time of takeoff, the plane is filled with plenty of fuel so that it can fly long distances.
If the aircraft has to land in an emergency, it weighs more, especially due to the amount of fuel.
Excess weight can make it difficult to control the aircraft on the runway during landing, increasing the chance of a crash. Therefore, the aircraft has to consume fuel by circling in the air for some time so that its weight reduces and it can land safely.
What is hydraulic system?
A hydraulic system is a technical system that uses the pressure of a fluid, usually oil, to control and operate various parts of an aircraft.
This system helps in many important functions of the aircraft, such as controlling the landing gear (plane’s wheels), flaps, brakes, and steering.
Without this system, it becomes difficult for these critical parts of the aircraft to function properly, which can lead to problems in safe flight and landing.
If the hydraulic system fails, it can cause problems in controlling the aircraft, so it is considered an extremely important system.
