Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Friday shared several pictures and video clips of the new Pamban Bridge in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. This is India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge. This bridge will replace the existing 105 year old bridge. Through a post on social media platform X, Railway Minister Vaishnav highlighted various aspects of this project. In his post he described the new Pamban Bridge as “a marvel of modern engineering” and said the project is “a significant upgrade, designed for speed, safety and innovation.”

This bridge has been constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
This is the specialty of the new Pamban rail bridge
Talking about the specialty of the new Pamban rail bridge built in Rameshwaram, it has the provision of load deflection along with 2 locos and 11 loaded wagons. This bridge has been designed in such a way that even the biggest ship can easily pass under it. In simple words, a train will run over this bridge, but as soon as a ship comes near it, this bridge will automatically rise and the ship will pass under it.
