Washington. The International Space Station (ISS) is leaking. The problem is that instead of doing things right, the American space agency NASA and the Russian space agency Roscosmos are at loggerheads with each other. This leakage is happening in the Russian module PRK of the space station. NASA and the Russian Space Agency have been aware of the leak since 2019. But the reason behind the leak has not been discovered yet. Many times the space station has been in danger due to leakage. An attempt was also made to seal the place of leakage. But all of this was to no avail.
Due to this dispute, astronaut Sunita Williams and other astronauts present at the space station may face problems. According to the recent report given by NASA regarding the leak, due to the leak the station will not be functional by the year 2030.
NASA said that there is a leakage in the Russian module on the space station, which is releasing 0.9 to 1.1 kg of air every day. Due to this the balance of the space station is getting disturbed. In April this year, this leakage had increased to 1.7 kg per day.
NASA also plans to install extra pallet seats in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule and rescue its astronauts and bring them back to Earth. Soon cracks may also appear at different places in the station. It may explode there. Anyway, efforts are being made to keep the space station operational till 2030. Then it will fall down burning in the Earth’s atmosphere.
The people of the Russian Space Agency have taken the risk of leakage lightly. Due to which there may be a big problem in the working of the space station in future. The space station has been continuously filled with astronauts since November 2000. This is about a 25 year old floating laboratory in space.
