He said, telecom is not limited to just connectivity, it is working to bridge the gap between rich and poor. PM Modi said that the telecom revolution in India has worked to connect even the remote areas of the country. Mobile towers have been installed in the hilly and border areas of the country, due to which cheap and fast internet services are being provided to the people in those areas also. He said that today every district in India is connected to 5G services and this is strengthening India as a digital nation.
Reforms in telecom sector changed the picture
PM Modi said that the speed with which India has laid the optical fiber network in the last 10 years is unique. He said, the amount of optical fiber that India has laid in the last 10 years is eight times more than the distance from the Earth to the Moon. This shows how India has done unprecedented work in bringing internet and mobile connectivity to remote areas. Prime Minister Modi said that in 2014 there were only two mobile manufacturing units in the country, but today this number has increased to more than 2,000. Due to this, India is emerging as a major mobile manufacturer and exporter country. He said that there has been a rise in mobile manufacturing under Made in India and now India is working towards manufacturing its own chips from finished products. With huge investments in the semiconductor sector, India is soon going to play a leading role in this sector as well.
success of digital india
PM Modi said that when he presented the vision of Digital India 10 years ago, he had said that we have to work not in pieces but with a holistic approach. India has achieved great success by implementing the four key pillars of Digital India – affordable devices, widespread digital connectivity, affordable data and a digital-first approach. He said that due to the reforms made to reduce data prices, data prices in India today are the lowest in the world. In India, one GB data costs only 12 cents, whereas in other countries of the world it is 10 to 20 times more expensive. Because of this, today on an average an Indian is using 30 GB data every month, which is a big achievement at the global level.
