Indian Railways is counted among the largest rail networks in the world.
Every day lakhs of people travel by train in the country. The reason for such high number of passengers is that traveling by railway is cheaper.
Besides, speed trains also save time. Keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, many types of facilities are provided by the Railways.
The train has facilities of First AC, Second AC, Third AC, Sleeper and General coach according to different classes. During summer, people prefer AC coaches for comfortable travel.
However, one has to pay higher fare for AC coach as compared to sleeper and general. But the question is that there is no need to run the train’s AC in winters… then why does the Railways charge for it?
At present the winter season is going on. If you have traveled by AC coach of the train these days, you must have noticed that there has been no change in the fare.
In such a situation, this question might arise in your mind that when AC is not used in winter, why does the Railways not reduce the charge? Let us give you the answer.
Actually, the AC coach of the train is kept cool during the summer season and warm during the winter. During summer the outside temperature is around 45 degrees Celsius.
During this period the temperature inside the AC coach is kept between 20-25 degrees Celsius. Similarly, during winter days the outside temperature remains around 4-8 degrees Celsius. At this time the temperature inside the AC coach is kept at 17-21 degrees Celsius.
Effort to keep the coach warm with blower
It is not completely correct to say that Railways keeps the AC of trains switched off during winter. Actually, to maintain the temperature during cold weather, the heater installed in the AC is turned on.
Also, by running the blower, hot air is supplied to the entire box. It is known that the heater of the AC coach of the train is of a special type.
This is the reason why passengers do not complain of dry skin even after staying in the heater all night. You must have noticed that the room heaters installed in our homes cause dry skin.
In this way, it is now completely clear that the AC installed in trains is working even in winters. This is the reason why the Railways charges the full fare from the passengers.
